Training is the key to success

General

AVR is actively involved with training at the Infocomm International Academy. Nevertheless, there is a growing need for specialized training that is not yet available anywhere, and a growing need for certified professionals to obtain the necessary renewal credits to retain their certification.

AVR has been repeatedly approached to provide urgently needed training in the operational art as it applies to testing and verification services, as well as design review.

In response, AVR has prepared economical training modules that are filled with the real “nuts and bolts” instruction that assure the delivery of quality systems that will please the client, and made them also available in a videoconference format. In this way, AVR hopes to deliver the content in the most economical way possible to the greatest number of industry colleagues.

The herd is on the move. Don’t be a stray!

Available Courses

D1 Designing a Conference Room Audio System

Duration: 4 hours; Credits: 4 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Abstract/ Objectives

This seminar directly dispels the “black art” of audio in conference rooms by applying the nuts and bolts of audio. Given the performance criteria, students are expected to (1) apply the Design Review Checklist, (2) verify that a system design can perform through calculation and (3) validating performance by measurement.

D2 Defining AV Performance Criteria with Your Customer

Duration: 3 hours; Credits: 3 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Abstract/ Objectives

Students will (1) understand the importance of establishing performance criteria with their customers; (2) learn methods of educating the customer if necessary. They will also obtain a simple performance checklist and (3) be able to take measurements to demonstrate the criteria to the customer.

D3 Successful Design Reviews

Duration: 2 hours; Credits: 2 RU’s, applicable to CTS and CTS-D

Abstract/ Objectives

Before a system can be fabricated, or a bill of materials is issued for purchasing, and materials installed during a site preparation, the AV specialist must be able to verify that the system will work on paper. Students will (1) use a suggested checklist as an exercise in doing so, and (2) become familiar with the calculations used during the verification process. (3) The students will also become familiar with the effect that changes, customer triggered or otherwise, bring on the impact of design.

I1 Setting Gain Structure in AV Systems

Duration: 3 hours; Credits: 3 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Abstract/ Objectives

The calibration of audio systems is a major sink hole for labor hours for the uninitiated. This seminar addresses the most efficient process an attaining targeted performance for (1) SPL, (2) SNR, and (3) THD such that the student will know how to calibrate the systems efficiently and successfully.

I2 The AV 9000 Commissioning Battery of Tests

Duration: 4 hours; Credits: 4 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Abstract/ Objectives

Using instrumentation in the proper fashion, students will perform each test listed in the de facto standard battery of tests, AV9000. The objective is to obtain a hands-on understanding of the tests so as to validate a “zero defects” AV system, and towards that end they will learn to perform the (1) inspection tests, (2) functional tests, and (3) performance tests listed in the checklist.

I3 Constant
Voltage PA Systems

Duration: 3 hours; Credits: 3 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Abstract/ Objectives

Students will obtain a firm understanding of the constant voltage protocol by first calculating impedances and then measuring actual devices with an impedance meter. They will (1) understand where the term comes from, (2) calculate the impedances of loudspeaker lines to avoid overloading an amplifier, and (3) measure the impedance on real devices.

I4 AV Instrumentation

Duration: 4 hours; Credits: 4 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Abstract/ Objectives

Students will identify the common instruments used in calibrating audio visual systems, understand their limitations, and become familiar with measurements such as those used in the commissioning of a system. Students will learn how to measure the (1) acoustical, (2) electrical, (3) video, and (4) network quantities found in an audio visual system.

M1 . Testing and Verification for the Technology Manager - Level Two

Duration: 4 hours; Credits: 4 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Level Two refers to technical operations staff for corporations and universities tasked with the readiness for multiple locations with audio visual technology. This training addresses the “nuts and bolts” of AV technology in these organizations. It includes recommendations for, and training in, the essential instrumentation that assures consistent, functional AV systems, with the confidence that comes with quantifying the performance.

Instrumentation Kits with all the necessary test instrumentation (for most commercial AV installations) are available for purchase or lease. For a complete list, refer to our website.

What you will learn

  • Quality basics for engineered audio visual systems
  • How to create a “function list”
  • Basic performance criteria (“How loud should it be? How bright should it be?)
  • How to create a maintenance operations list
  • Inspection notes and comments
  • How to measure and set SPL, use a video test generator, adjust PLUGE for best video quality, and other tests
  • Basic record keeping

M2 Testing and Verification Seminar for Consultants and Integrators - Level Three*

Duration: 8 hours; Credits: 8 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Level Three refers to direct support staff for installers or consultants who calibrate and verify the calibration of installations with audio visual technology. This training addresses the “nuts and bolts” of AV technology in these installations, and covers the proposed “AV 9000” comprehensive standard. It includes the description of, and training in, the essential instrumentation that assures consistent, functional AV systems, with the confidence that comes with quantifying with zero defects the product, performance, and practice of these systems.

Instrumentation Kits with all the test instrumentation necessary for calibration (as applied to most commercial AV installations) are available for purchase or lease. For a complete list, refer to our website www.avres.com .

Learning Objectives

  • Quality basics for engineered audio visual systems
  • Basic performance criteria for an acceptable system (“How loud should it be? How bright should it be?)
  • Calibration of audio and visual systems
  • The Staging Battery of Tests
  • The Commissioning Battery of Tests
  • Inspection notes and comments

M3 Project Management for AV Projects

Duration: 3 hours; Credits: 3 RU’s, applicable to CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I

Abstract/ Objectives

The objective of this seminar is to familiarize students with the basic tools of AV project management, as well as the application of Quality Management to assure on-time, zero-defect audio visual systems. Students will learn (1) to apply tools such as CPM, PERT, Gantt Charts, (2) understand process flow charts, and (3) become familiar applying this knowledge to real world applications
